One species, two names

Dendrobium officinale Kimura & Migo is an orchid native from southern China to northern Vietnam, southern Japan and Taiwan (Plants of the World Online, Kew). In Chinese it is 铁皮石斛.

Older literature and some trade documents use the name Dendrobium catenatum. World Flora Online accepts D. officinale and lists D. catenatum as one of its synonyms (World Flora Online). Our documents use Dendrobium officinale.

CITES: every export needs a permit

All orchids are listed in CITES Appendix II. Its annotation #4 exempts seeds, pollen, flasked seedlings, cut flowers of artificially propagated plants and a few named products, but not dried stems, powder or juice of Dendrobium (CITES Appendices, valid from 25 November 2023).

So each shipment of these products leaves China with a CITES export permit. Some destination countries also require an import permit; we check this with you before shipping.

Grown on living trees in the Yandang Mountains

Plants are attached to living trees and rock faces under the forest canopy and grown without greenhouses, close to the conditions the species grows in naturally. [EDIT: base location, area in mu or hectares, years in cultivation, tree species, inputs used or not used]

Buyer questions

Is this the same as Dendrobium catenatum?

Yes. World Flora Online treats Dendrobium catenatum as a synonym of Dendrobium officinale. Our documents use Dendrobium officinale.

Do I need a CITES permit to import?

Every shipment leaves China with a CITES export permit. Whether you also need an import permit depends on your country; we confirm this with you before the order is shipped.

What is the minimum order?

It differs by product. Send the product and quantity through the form and we reply with the MOQ for that order.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes. Tick 'Send a sample first' in the form. Samples also need export paperwork, so allow extra time.

What are your payment terms?

[EDIT: payment terms]

Products are sold as plant raw materials and food ingredients. This site makes no health or medical claims. Import rules for dendrobium products differ by country, and buyers are responsible for confirming that their use and labels are permitted in their market.
